PURPOSE:To prevent clogging of a delivery port by providing a liquid film formation means which can form a liquid film between the delivery surface of a recording head and the surface of a cap member in contact with said delivery surface. CONSTITUTION:When a power source is in OFF state, a recording head unit 27 is moved in X1 direction to be returned from a recording region to an initial position, while a discharge tray unit 35 also is retreated in the X1 direction and thereafter the unit 27 comes down toward a cap member 36, whereby each delivery surface of heads 20A-20D is brought into contact with each of ink impregnation bodies 38A-38D corresponding respectively to said heads. In this case, the porous bodies 38A-38D are impregnated with discharged ink in the case of flank delivery, and when the cap member 36 is in sealing engagement with the unit 27, the ink contained in the bodies 38 penetrates into the gap between the delivery surfaces of the heads 20 and the bodies 38A-38D by capillary phenomenon, so that a liquid film is formed therein. Consequently, the delivery surfaces are shielded from the outside air, preventing the ink in the delivery port from being vaporized and from becoming viscous. |
