DOUBLE SHIELD EXCAVATOR AND CONSTRUCTION METHOD OF EXCAVATING TUNNEL USING THE SAME

PURPOSE:To easily free the direction in which a pair of parent and child shield excavators of the same performance and the same scale are disposed so as to change the pair of excavators in use into a form corresponding to the section of a tunnel by arranging the pair of shield excavators in parallel to each other in the direction of excavation, and connecting the excavators together to constitute a double shield excavator. CONSTITUTION:A pair of circular shield excavators of substantially the same performance and the same scale are arranged in parallel to each other in the direction of their axes as a parent machine 20 and a child machine 30 and are connected to each other in such a manner as freely sliding against each other by an engagement device 40 comprising an engagement member 23 and an engagement channel 33, to form a double shield excavator 10. The engagement device 40 is connected to a guide ring 50 provided around the parent machine 20 via a bearing 51 and rotating about the outer periphery of the device 40. The child machine 30 is rotated around the parent machine 20 so as to make their relative positions variable and make them separable from each other and when in engagement with each other the parent and child machines excavate two series of tunnels of large cross section into a desired shape, while when separated from each other the machines are each used as a single normal excavator.
