<p>An apparatus (100) for precision cutting lightweight, thin-walled tubes includes a plurality of fluted rotating drums (104, 110, 116, 120, 124, 134, 136, 138, 144) for transporting rough cut, thin-walled tubes from a source of supply (102) sequentially past a first inspection station (112) to determine if the tubes are crushed beyond a predetermined amount, a flaring station (118) to flare the tube ends, an aligning station (122) to align the tubes from cutting, and a cutting station (126) to cut the tube into multiple sections. The final two fluted drums (138, 144) comprise a selection means for selecting, respectively, alternate cut tube lengths. Each selector drum (138, 144) has an associated optical sensor (150, 152) to determine whether the tube lengths have been properly cut. <IMAGE></p> |
