A recording liquid comprising from 0.2 to 12% by weight, based on the total weight of the recording liquid, of a water-soluble dyestuff, from 0.5 to 25% by weight, based on the total weight of the recording liquid, of at least one member selected from the group consisting of compounds of the following formulas I, II and III, and an aqueous medium: <IMAGE> (I) wherein l is a number of from 4 to 20, <IMAGE> (II) wherein R is a lower alkyl group or a phenyl group, and each of m and n is a number of from 4 to 20, and <IMAGE> (III) wherein X is a halogen atom, and p is a number of from 4 to 20.
