PURPOSE: To independently transmit the light energy by changing an applied surface acoustic wave SAW to change the wavelength of the light energy coupled between waveguides. CONSTITUTION: An essential part of a waveguide 30 of an input channel is formed on a buffer layer 12 in parallel with a wave guide 34 of a fiber channel. When plural SAWs are applied with a frequency which generates a transmission propagation constant smaller than Ktmax , light energy can be transmitted with plural light wavelengths between the waveguide 34 of the fiber channel and the waveguide 30 of the input channel. when plural SAWs are applied with a frequency which generates a transmission propagation constant between Krmax and Krmin , light energy can be transmitted with plural light wavelengths between the waveguide 34 of the fiber channel and a waveguide 50 of an output channel.
