A method and a device are described for printing all round a metallic hollow body, in particular a can body, by means of thermal transfer printing, wherein ink particles arranged on an auxiliary support are introduced by diffusion, for example, into a dye-receptive layer on the can body using heat and pressure. The method and device are designed in such a way that the can body is heated up briefly with the auxiliary support applied and the transfer process thus initiated is subsequently completed at a preferably dropping temperature. Thus by suppressing the lateral migration of the dye molecules during the transfer process, visually sharp images on the can body and a satisfactory closed print of the overlapping region of the auxiliary support are achieved. …<IMAGE>… |
