Method and arrangement for developing turbulence and diffusion in the headbox of a paper machine. Water or water vapor is fed to the headbox, with which turbulence is introduced to the pulp suspension stream F from the lip channel of the headbox. The water or water vapor is fed over the entire width of the lip channel 15 of the headbox in the form of lamellar jets W, W0, W1 which extend over essentially the entire width of lip channel 15 in the direction F of the main stream of pulp suspension, between which jets the layer or layers of the pulp suspension stream flows/flow. The turbulence level in the lip channel stream F is controlled in the method by changing the flow rate v1 and/or flow amount of the extra liquid and/or vapor fed to the headbox. <IMAGE>
