PURPOSE:To improve oxidation resistance and to enhance durability by adding a specified amount of silicon carbide in an MgO-C based brick having MgO as a main component and contains a prescribed amount of graphite. CONSTITUTION:An MgO-C-based brick excellent in oxidation resistance is produced by incorporating 10-30wt.% graphite and 1-6wt.% silicon carbide into a brick having MgO as an essential constitutional component. Thereby spalling resistance can be enhanced because graphite is blended with MgO-based brick excellent in corrosion resistance. Furthermore when SiC is added and oxidized, it is changed into SiO2 and CO. CO is discharged as gas but SiO2 is melted and made filmlike and covers a working surface. Therefore oxygen is prevented from being infiltrated into the brick. Accordingly, graphite to be easily oxidized is effectively prevented from being oxidized and durability of the brick is enhanced. |
