Contaminated ground, which may vary greatly in area and the possible types of contamination, is purified by a succession of individual bioreactors, acting independently but linked together by a support system formed of profiled metal girders. - The bioreactors, comparable in size with cement mixers, are taken in parallel or succession through the afflicted area, while propelled by chains or a belt drive. The bacterial stages may be preceded by washing and/or chemical treatment. - Individual reactors may transfer material via feed worms or conveyor belts. Feed apertures may be at only one end of the reactor, but apertures at opposite ends permit continuous linear operation.
