PURPOSE: To equalize section moduli around the rectangle center and the major axis to 4 so as to be compatible both of high torque transmission and longitudinal deformation by forming a solid cross section of an intermediate area between both end parts into an hourglass shape which is formed by connecting projection parts together via a central core and inscribed to a rectangle with the length of twice the size of the width. CONSTITUTION: A cross section 120 of an intermediate area 12 of a rod 10 carrying universal joints 20 in both end parts 11 is formed into a shape inscribed to a rectangle with a major axis x-x and a minor axis y-y. This cross section 120 is a solid body with a shape similar to a skeined wool ball or a hourglass, and the cross section is provided with projection parts 122 connected together via a central core 123, while the length of the rectangle is twice the size of the width at least and section moduli to the center O of the rectangle and the major axis x-x are equalized to four at least. Therefore, resistance against buckling is increased, and high torque transmission and considerable longitudinal deformation can be accomplished at the same time. |
