The connector has a first inner end plate (5) of a dia. matching that of a blind hole (3) in a wooden component (2), together with one or more load-transmission bars (7,8) joined to the plate and extending in the axial direction of the hole. One or more rod-shaped dowels (11a,b,c) are driven into the wooden component at right angles to the bars and through the blind hole, so as to engage behind the plate, and a curable substance is cast in the hole round the bars and dowels to form a composite block.
