PURPOSE:To reduce the capacity of a representative memory by detecting the dimension number with which an input vector has the largest absolute value, segmenting a reproduction vector which matches the number from representative vectors, and determining the dimension number where the distortion between the segmented vector and input vector is minimum. CONSTITUTION:The input vector X with a dimension number (n) is inputted from an input terminal 1 and a peak detection part 2 detects the maximum dimension with the largest absolute value, e.g. X5 and outputs a dimension number jmax=5 to a vector segmentation part 4. The segmentation part 4 segments the (n)-dimensional reproduction vector from the representative vector Yi so that the absolute value matches the maximum dimension number jmax. Consequently, the reproduction vector Zi matching the input vector X with the dimension number jmax(=5) to be the largest absolute value is obtained. A searching part 5 calculates the difference between the vectors X and Zi by a subtracter 6 and a distortion part 7 calculates the extent of distortion; and a minimum value detection part 8 searches for jmax which minimizes the extent of distortion and a multiplexer 9 outputs jmax and jmin to an output terminal 10. |
