In a cable for conducting light waves, with a central unit round which are twisted light wave conductors, the central unit consists of single filaments which can move w.r.t. one another and which have been surrounded by a jacket. Pref. the jacket is of a synthetic, with wall thickness 0.3-1.5 mm and inner dia. 0.5-10 mm. The single filaments are of glass, aramide or other high-strength yarn and are not twisted; they may be embedded in a compsn.. ADVANTAGE - The cable can be used as a self-supporting air cable and does not need vibration dampers.
