UV-curable coloured resin mixts. (I) are claimed, contg. (a) oligomeric acrylic resin(s), (b) low-viscosity acrylate monomer(s), (c) polymerisation initiator(s), (d) dye(s) or leuco-dye(s) and/or colour-intensifying pigment(s), (e) hydrophobic component(s) and (f) lubricant(s) and/or (g) thermal polymerisation stabiliser(s) and/or (h) coupling agent(s) and/or (j) thixotropic additive(s) or filler(s) and/or (k) a sensitiser for (c), (l) other organic binder(s) and (m) a non-acrylic UV-polymerisable solvent. Pref. main components of (I) are (a) above 50 (pref. about 70) wt.% urethane-acrylate, polyester-acrylate or epoxide-acrylate (co)-oligomer(s), (b) 5-30 (pref. 10-20) wt.% low-viscosity urethane-acrylate, polyester-acrylate, epoxide-acrylate or polyether-acrylate monomer(s), (c) 1-15 (pref. 5-10) wt.% initiator, (d) not above 10 wt.% dye(s) and/or leuco-dye(s) combined with a cpd. which forms an acid on irradiation and/or a colour pigment, (e) 0.5-10 (pref. 3-5) wt.% waterproofing agent(s) and/or pigment(s) and/or waterproofed acrylate oligomer(s); and 0.1-10 (pref. 1-5) wt.% other components as above. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful for coating quartz-glass light waveguides which already have a conventional single or double coating, or similar plastic optical waveguides; the coating of (I) is 0.5-10 microns thick (claimed). The invention provides a solvent-free resin mixt. which can be used to coat varnished glass fibre optics with a corrosion-resistant, water-repellent, colour-marked layer 0.5-10 microns thick; (I) is easily and evenly applied at high drawing speeds and then UV-cured.
