Seal for waste tip - has central mineral layer enclosed by two asphalt layers and fluid impermeable lower asphalt layer

The seal for a waste tip has two asphalt layers (12,16) enclosing a mineral layer (10). The binding agent in the asphalt is pref. bitumen. The upper asphalt layer is preferably triple-layered and consists of a compenating layer (17) lying on the mineral layer (10), an asphalt sealing layer (17a) and a protective layer (17b). The fluid-impermeable lower asphalt layer (12) prevents the mineral layer from drying out. ADVANTAGE - Cracks which could arise as the mineral layer dries out are now avoided.
