PURPOSE:To obtain the title polymer free from discoloration and odor using a catalyst containing an organoaluminum compound and a component which is prepared by suspension of a solid from co-grinding a magnesium dihalide, boron compound, halogenated hydrocarbon and titanium halide followed by treatment with a titanium halide. CONSTITUTION:In polymerizing ethylene or copolymerizing ethylene and at least one alpha-olefin in the presence of a catalyst made up of a transition metal compound and organometallic compound at temperatures not lower than the melting point of the polymer to be produced, a catalytic system is used, which is composed of (A) a solid catalytic component prepared by treating with a titanium halide, in a suspended state, a solid component formed by co-grinding a magnesium dihalide, a boron compound of the formula (X<1> is halogen; Y is electron-donating compound; m is 0, 1 or 2), a halogenated hydrocarbon and a titanium halide and (B) an organoaluminum compound. |
