PURPOSE:To identify a character, a dot and other medium tone picture depending on their run lengths and to identify a color original and a black/white original by processing block to each picture element so as to decide a block color. CONSTITUTION:A block processing section 3 applies block processing to each picture element into 4X4-8X8. A block decision section 4 decides a color with a maximum frequency in a block as to 7 colors (Y, M, C, K, B, G, R) except W and uses the result as a block color. The run length in the unit of picture elements is shorter and the run length of a dot area having been difficulty of segmentation from a character is extended. On the other hand, in the case of a character area, since the length between characters is longer than a pitch of dots, the block run length is decreased. Thus, the segmentation is made available from the standpoint of the block run length. |
