A machine for producing thermoplastic bags from a web forms web segments (WS), each defining two bags, and stacks these segments on one of a plurality of interconnected and spaced accumulators (88 or 188) indexed at a stacking station. As the segments are stacked they are engaged by means which ensures formation of a registered stack. In one embodiment said means comprises stacking posts (90) on which the segments are registered by means of holes punched in the segments upstream of the stacking station. In an alternative embodiment pneumatically actuated fingers (218), provided at the stacking station, operate to retain the segments on the accumulator (188) during stacking and a clamp (198) holds the stack in register during indexing from the stacking station. When a predetermined number of segments have been stacked on the accumulator, the accumulator moves the stack to a station where the segments are cut, or cut and joined, along a central line of the stack to produce two individual stacks of bags. <IMAGE> |
