PURPOSE: To give flexibility to an ultrasonic contact transducer so that the transducer can acoustically match a composite material by arranging a 1/4-wave reflecting body between the internal surfaces of a nonpolar polymer film and a polar piezoelectric film. CONSTITUTION: Each transducer 14 is provided with a polarized piezoelectric film 20, a first shield electrode 22 provided on the external surface 36 of the film 20, a nonpolar polymer film 24, a second shield electrode 26 provided on the external surface 34 of the film 24, and a metallic layer 28 forming a 1/4-wave reflecting body. The laminated metallic layer or 1/4-wave reflecting body 28 is provided between the internal surfaces 30 and 38 of the piezoelectric film 20 and polymer film 24. Therefore, the transducer 14 has flexibility and is applied to such an uneven surface that is usually encountered in nondestructive inspections.
