PURPOSE:To reduce loss and to enhance safety by providing a function for closing a short circuit switch arranged in parallel with a capacitor and a function for closing a capacitor protective gap unit and a parallel short circuit switch automatically or with high speed. CONSTITUTION:A short circuit switch 11 is set to be opened when the output from a detection sensor 12 exceeds a control value. Since the short circuit switch 11 is provided with a function to be opened/closed based on a command from a controller 13, the short circuit switch 11 can be kept in open state if a geomagnetic current can be predicted. Upon occurrence of short circuit fault on the system when the short circuit switch 11 is opened in order to compensate for the geomagnetic current, discharge takes place in a gap unit 10 arranged in parallel with a capacitor 3 thus protecting the capacitor 3. The short circuit switch 11 is provided with a high speed closing unit. |
