PRODUCTION OF CATALYST FOR SYNTHESIS OF FORMALDEHYDE

PURPOSE:To simply produce an oxide catalyst having high performance by spray-drying a prepd. soln. contg. nitric acid in a specified ratio to molybdenum, calcining and tableting the resulting powder. CONSTITUTION:When an oxide catalyst for production of formaldehyde contg. molybdenum and iron as principal constituent elements is produced, a prepd. soln. contg. nitric acid in >=1.7 molar ratio to molybdenum is spray-dried and the resulting powder is calcined at 250-600 deg.C and tableted. A powdery catalyst is easily obtd. by adding nitric acid in the specified molar ratio and an oxide catalyst having high performance can simply be produced without requiring a crushing stage.
