Process for the regeneration treatment of predominantly clay-bonded casting old sand, for its re-use in place of new sand, whereby the sand grains are repeatedly accelerated and decelerated and are rubbed against one another by a combined impact stress and shearing stress and in this way are freed from the shell adhering to the sand grains, which shell consists of binding substances and additives, with the use of a pheumatic dust-removal device leading to the outside. The water content of the old sand before the regeneration treatment is set at the most at one per cent by weight water.
