A roof covering comprises a bottom layer of inflammable heat-insulating material 2, and a covering layer is fitted on top of this 2. The covering layer 2 comprises a bottom partial layer construction 12 and an upper partial layer construction 22. The bottom partial layer construction 12, which is flame-resistant and of partially flammable material, comprises a barrier layer 13, to each side of which a layer of covering compound 14, 15 is applied. The upper partial layer construction 22 is a roofing material of plastic-based fire retarded or inherently fire-retardant material. The said roof covering can, without its weight becoming excessive, fulfil the aviation fire criteria with regard to fire propagation and fire penetration. <IMAGE>
