A laser-equipped control device for transmitting signals to a control signal receiver 16 such as a manoeuvring apparatus or a computer in a plant having an assessment conveyor 10 on which objects 12 are transported lying at some distance apart in the direction of transport. Connected to the assessment conveyor 10, expediently above it, there is a laser 17, which through the medium of a position-signal transmitter can automatically be moved in time with the motion of the objects and which is arranged to follow the objects on the assessment conveyor one by one in order to identify them, at the same time as a signal combination is transmitted from another signal transmitter 13,14,15 to the control signal receiver 16, which signal combination is indicative of a property of the object assessed in each instance, such as its quality.
