PURPOSE:To form a thermal recording material having good pencil writing properties by successively laminating a thermal recording layer, an intermediate layer and a protective layer of a water-soluble polymer containing silica and calcium carbonate having specific average particle sizes to a paper support. CONSTITUTION:A thermal recording layer consisting of an electron donating leuco dye precursor and an electron acceptive compound is provided on a paper support. An intermediate layer and a protective layer consisting of a water-soluble polymer and pigment are successively laminated to the thermal recording layer to form a thermal recording material. As the pigment added to the protective layer, silica having an average particle size of 2.0 - 5.0 mum and light calcium carbonate having an average particle size of 0.5 - 2.0 mum are together used. When starch particles are added to the protective layer in an amount of 5.0 - 50.0% by wt. of the protective layer, touch and writing properties are further enhanced. |
