The invention relates to a device for storing, on a hauled vehicle (1), such as the trailer of an articulated lorry, at least one item of information relating to this hauled vehicle (1), in particular for identification or automatic recognition thereof, especially from the cabin of a hauling tractor (4). It comprises a microprocessor (6) on board the hauled vehicle (1) and associated with at least one memory (7, 8, 9) for storing the said information item, as well as with means (5) for exchanging information between the microprocessor (6) and a unit (3) external to the hauled vehicle (1).
