At the yarn or filament take-off stage, where the material is delivered continuously such as in synthetic filament mfg., the filament is constantly wound round the floating roller. The filament coils are advanced continually to the free end of the roller to drop off, and by led off as a matting. The operation is for the take-off action on continuously delivered filament material so that, when the winding bobbin is changed or there is a stoppage, the material is diverted into the waste collection area for conversion into a byproduct such as a felting or non-woven. Where the roller is in the normal operating plane, as the fialment is wound round it, its rotary surface speed is higher than the filament delivery speed.
