A base for suppositories consists of a water-insoluble fatty mass and an emulsifier which itself consists of the addn. prod. of 5-50 mol. ethylene oxide on 1 mol hardened cdastor castor oil. Pref. the suppository base consists essentially of 90-99.8 wt.% of a glycerine fatty acid ester mass and 0.2-10 wt.% of the addn. prod. of 5-50 mol. ethylene oxide and 1 mol hardened castor oil. Pref. the suppository ground mass has a melting point gradient of 29-4 deg. C.
