MODIFIED I-PLATE CORE STRUCTURES AND METHODS OF YOKING AMORPHOUS METAL STACKED CORE TRANSFORMERS

A laminated transformer core (10) having a plurality of substantially coincidental layers of strips of amorphous metal. The adjacent layers (11, 20) have differing E-shaped configurations of the strips constituting the respective configurations. The layers are disposed in an alternating sequence of configurations (11, 20). A laminated yoke (17, 18) is disposed on the core (10) to complete the transformer. An alternate embodiment has a plurality of groups, each group having a plurality of differing layers. The transformer is fabricated by cutting the desired strips from a roll of amorphous metal (55). The strips are configured in the desired E-shape configurations in a fixture to form the alternating layers. The desired number of layers are wrapped with insulating paper and taped. Prewound coils of wire (56) are disposed on the core (10) and the laminated yoke (17, 18) is disposed on the core (10).
