(A) A novel sodium perborate, with an active oxygen content of over 16 wt.%, has the following IR spectrum characteristics (KBr compact): (i) discrete bands in the 3430, 2820, 1640 and 1060 1/cm regions; (ii) a missing isolated band at 850-870 1/cm; and (iii) a transmission ratio D1060:D3430 of less than 1.0 (D=transmittivity at the respective wave number, measured in %). (B) The sodium perborate is prepd. by (a) producing a soln. or suspension of sodium metaborate and hydrogen peroxide, having a borate concn. (as B2O3) of 90-130 g/l and a H2O2:B2O3 molar ratio of 2.0-4.2:1; and (b) spray drying the soln. or suspension at an used air temp. of 55-120 (pref. 60-95) deg.C.
