The handling system uses a pump to supply the removed blood to a separation centrifuge after addition of anti-coagulants. The rotation rate of the centrifuge is controlled in dependence on the measured flow rate of the blood and the volumetric ratio of the obtained blood fraction to the full quantity of blood. A microprocessor is used to maintain a constant ratio between the flow of blood fed to the centrifuge and the flow of each blood fraction from the centrifuge independent of variations in the blood flow rate. The microprocessor may also control the dosing pumps for addition of the anti-coagulants, etc.
