A fastener (10) having an assembly comprising a sleeve (12) and pin (14) for telescoping movement therein useful for clamping together a plurality of work pieces (16),(18) has two mechanical locking structures for locking the pin (24) and sleeve (12) together. One locking mechanism comprises material contained in a reduced diameter section (26) of the sleeve (12) which is formed into a first locking groove (34) of the pin (14) as a result of pulling the pin (14) into the sleeve (12). A second lock comprises a locking crown (46) formed in the sleeve head (20) which is formed into a second locking groove (36) in the pin (14) by means of increased pulling pressure applied by the setting tool against the locking crown (46) after pin movement has stopped. The design of the pin head (28) is such that a clamping of the work pieces (16)(18) occurs prior to expansion of the sleeve (12) in the apertures of the work pieces (16),(18) and prior to setting the double locks of the pin (14) to the sleeve (12). <IMAGE> <IMAGE> |
