A filter plate, which may be flat or cylindrical, is provided with a pattern of cut-out holes, e.g. by directed radiation. The holes, all alike, may be of circular, square or polygonal shape, and formed e.g. in cast resin such as methacrylate, metal foil such as nickel, or plastic subsequently plated with metal. A similar plate element, i.e. with holes of the same shape and size, is laid on top of the first plate and then displaced laterally to produce a structure with rows of very fine holes passing through both plates. Permanent bonding of the two plates, e.g. by adhesion or welding, produces a permanent fine filter. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for filters used in power plant. A microporous structure is very cheaply formed
