PURPOSE:To efficiently manufacture a superconducting wire rod having a high critical current density by working an oxide superconductor rectangularly at a specified high draft. CONSTITUTION:Plastic working is applied to the oxide superconductor to be formed into a wire rod. This plastic working contains a step working the wire rod rectangularly at drafts 80 - 98 %. When super conducting powder flows in the width direction, it is higher in density than when it flows in the lengthwise direction, because it flows as it is constrained by upper and lower rolls, etc. In this way, it is possible to obtain the oxide superconducting wire rod high in critical current density after heat treatment and uniform in the length- wise direction.
