An assembly (20) carrying a sensor (21), of e.g. rotational speed or direction, cooperating with a magnetic pole wheel (23) on the drive shaft (14) contacts a brush holder (18) through pref. a plug connector (19). Contact is established when a subassembly (25) contg. e.g. a gearbox is installed with its flange (26) against the stator housing (12). The sensing unit (20) lies in a plane either normal or tangential to the drive shaft (14) which carries the commutator (15) and armature (16) rotating between permanent magnets (13). ADVANTAGE - Mfr. is simplified with shorter lines and less risk of interference on low-level signal leads.
