The wheel bearing unit has a bearing pin (4), formed integrally with a king pin (5), supported via a rolling bearing (2) in a wheel hub (1). A bolt (8), fitted in an axial bore (7) of the bearing pin, tensions the bearing inner races (3) via a pressure disc (10) against a bearing pin shoulder (6). A bolt securing device (13), pref. a plastics sleeve insert, holds the bolt under tension. USE/ADVANTAGE - The bolt and not the bearing pin is tensioned, allowing greater operating loads.
