A belt drive has one driven and at least one other roller, plus the power-transmitting belt; one roller has a tensioning device with a member whose length varies with temp.; the belt itself has a tension strand of polyamide and the member is an expanding component which is made of plastics and polyamide in particular. ADVANTAGE - The drive system has an automatic tensioning device. It can be used in atmospheres which are liable to severe variations in temp. and humidity, where it requires no adjustments.
