The slide ring seal has a housing to hold an axially operating screw compression spring, a support body to hold a slide ring, and elastic sealing means to seal the slide ring from the housing and support body. The support body (5), seen circumferentially has several radially outwardly aligned tongues (9) to axially support the screw compression spring (3). The tongues are plastically deformable in the axial direction so that the axial space between the housing base (8) and tongues (9) can be adjusted in a defined way. The tongues can engage over the screw compression spring on the outer circumference and extend radially into corresponding recesses (14) in the housing. USE/ADVANTAGE - The axial force fluctuations which can occur during series production are substantially eliminated.
