Photographic compound (A) capable of releasing a development inhibitor group by means of a displacement reaction enables increased image acutance when the compound contains in a coupling position a coupling-off group represented by the formula: wherein X, R1, R2, R3, R4, and Q are as defined in the application. Such a compound (A) is useful in a photographic silver halide material and process.
