PURPOSE:To enhance the reliability of an apparatus by simple constitution without using a contact type sensor by using an optical fiber covered with a sheath and partially exposed from the sheath. CONSTITUTION:At first, the light signal outputted from a light emitting diode 4 usually passes through a glass optical fiber 1 and an exposed part 1a to be received by a photodiode 5. When a vehicle becomes a collision state, the wt. 3 fixed to the part 1a exposed from a sheath 2 of the optical fiber 1 bends the optical fiber 1 low in strength when it receives the external force of collision. By this phenomenon, no light signal is inputted to the photodiode 5 and two inputs of a comparator 6 become an 'H' level and an 'L' level and, therefore, the output level thereof becomes 'H' and a signal operating an air bag 8 is outputted to suddenly expand the air bag 8 by an electric detonator 7. By this method, the reliability of the apparatus can be enhanced by simple constitution without using a contact type sensor. |
