The present invention relates to a brake shoe consisting of at least a friction layer, an intermediate layer and a backing plate (support plate), the intermediate layer in the form of a plate being manufactured from an insert, preferably made of glass fibres and from a paste of heat-curable synthetic material, from a heat-resistant rubber, from filler materials and, if required, other additives, characterised in that the intermediate layer (2), of a thickness of at least 1 mm, is formed from a web (4) which acts as an insert and which is totally impregnated with the paste (5). <IMAGE>
