<p>PURPOSE:To increase sensitivity of measurement of thin paper and to make it possible to measure moisture in the vicinity of the surface of comparatively thick paper by measuring the light which is transmitted through the paper and the light which is propagated in the lateral direction at the same time. CONSTITUTION:The light from a light projecting part 1 is emitted from a first lightguide means 20 and received with a photodetector 12 through paper 3 as a sheet-shaped object. The physical characteristics of the paper 3 are measured based on the signals from the photodetector 12. At this time, part of the light is transmitted through the paper 3 and operated in an operator 13. The other part is scattered with the cellulose of the paper as shown by arrows (a) in the vicinity of the surface of the paper 3 and propagated in the lateral direction. The propagating light is inputted into a second lightguide means 21 which is arranged at the side surface of the means 20 with a constant distance being provided. The light is emitted toward a photodetector 12' and R/M is operated in an operator 13'. The light transmitted through the paper 3 gives the data of the average moisture in the paper, and the propagated light in the lateral direction measures the moisture in the vicinity of the surface of the paper 3.</p> |
