Atomising metal melt to produce fine powder - using successive atomising zones using gas and liquid atomising medium in respective first and second zones

Fine metal powder is produced by atomising a metal melt in two successive atomising zones. The first zone uses a gas atomising medium at a pressure of 5-30 bar while the second zone uses a liquid medium at at least 50 bar pressure. Esp. for Fe and Cu based powders. USE/ADVANTAGE- A very fine powder of average particle size below 60 cm is produced which has good compaction properties. The oxygen content of the powder is restricted so that no subsequent annealing treatment is required.
