The trunk-type piston is for an IC engine. It has a central portion of the crown adjustable for height in the body and working between stops. This forms interconnected control chambers supplied with oil under pressure, one of them (7) being sealed from the combustion chamber by two or more sliprings. A passage (12) runs to the crankcase from a chamber (13) in front of the slipring (10) adjacent to the chamber (7) which is filled to lower the crown and reduce the compression ratio. USE/ADVANTAGE - Reduces risk of carbon formation at sliprings or in the control chamber for a variable compression ratio piston for an IC engine.
