Electrical current, Portland cement and calcium are produced simultaneously from bitunimous lime by (i) firing bitunimous limestone in a combustion unit; (ii) using obtd. hot off-gases for current generation and/or other use; (iii) making correction addns to the hot lime-rich ash; (iv) firing the hot mixt. to Portland clinker in a rotary kiln; and (v) cooling, adding calcium sulphate and grinding to form Portland cement. Plant for carrying out the process comprises combustion unit (2) associated with a hot ash-receiving rotary kiln (7) which is followed by a cooler (18) and grinding unit (22), the combustion unit and the rotary kiln having heat exchangers (3,10) and piping (6,9,16) for use of obtd. hot air. ADVANTAGE- Process allows environmentally friendly further processing of ash obtd. from the combustion process.
