Novolak-like phenol! resin used as reinforcing resin for rubber

Use of phenol resin obtd. by Friedel-Crafts alkylation of (A) at least one phenol with (B) at least one cpd. contg. 4-8C and 2-4 functional gps. selected from Cl atoms and/or -C=C- double bonds. Use as reinforcing resins for rubber vulcanisates, is claimed. (I) have linking gps. not restricted to alkylidene, but are substantially free from gps. for crosslinking, partic. hydroxymethyl gps., and are used in conjunction with HCHO donors. 1-50, part. 3-15, wt% (I) is used, on amt. of rubber.(I) is used in prepn. of tyre beads.
