The engine is a V-8 construction with a 60 deg. 'V' angle. The crankshaft (5) is connected to angular gears (19, 20) via a balance shaft (14), for moments of the first order, installed parallel to it and driven in the opposite direction of rotation with a RPM ratio of 1:1. The balance shaft is fitted with a bevel gearwheel (19) which meshes with another bevel gearwheel installed on the drive shaft (22). ADVANTAGE - The design demands relatively little space in the vehicle longitudinal and transverse directions.
