In the continuous-bleaching installation described, the steamer unit (1) is followed by a washing unit (2) comprising several individual washing machines (6, 7, 8, 9). The washing machines (6, 7) immediately downstream of the steamer unit (1) are operated in co-current flow, and are fed with 10-50 % of the washing liquor throughput of the last washing machines (8, 9) which are operated on the counterflow principle.
