Polarimetric testing of surface properties and transparent material - by evaluating difference between reflected s and p polarised components

A method of testing material properties involves directing electromagnetic radiation at the material surface and measuring the intensity components of s- and p-polarisation in the reflected radiation. At least one polarisation foil is placed in the beam path. The measurement values are used to determine material and surface characteristics such as roughness, irregularities, damage, correlation lengths of surface structures, irregularities and defects, inclination, fouling, etc. USE/ADVANTAGE - Enables difference between reflection coeffts. for s- and p-polarised radiation to be evaluated.
