OPTICAL RECEIVER WITH AN AVALANCHE PHOTODIODE

In optical receivers, a sensitivity control is frequently necessary to be able to emit the generated electrical signals in a comparatively small amplitude range despite widely varying received light intensities. In optical receivers with avalanche photodiodes, it is customary to control the input sensitivity via the multiplication factor of the avalanche photodiode, and in addition in correspondingly large input amplitude ranges it is customary to connect further controlled amplifiers downstream of the avalanche photodiode. The compensation and the optimisation of a plurality of control circuits coupled to one another is, however, difficult and costly so that in the optical receiver according to the invention an uncontrolled transimpedance amplifier with downstream uncontrolled limiter amplifier is provided and the control device contains an inverse PI controller which is dependent on the output signal of the limiter amplifier.
